Using Steel for Community Builds

Coresteel uses unique structural systems to construct custom-designed steel buildings, often utilising our specialist knowledge of steel for community builds.

Whether it’s a steel structure to house St John’s invaluable ambulances or a studio for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Coresteel is committed to constructing quality steel builds for any community project that comes our way.

Look below to see how Coresteel’s uniquely expert steel structures are making a difference in Aotearoa, one piece of steel at a time.

St Johns Taupo, steering steel for safer communities

When it comes to emergencies, it pays to have the best in the business on your side – that’s why St Johns Taupo chose Coresteel to design a commercial steel project to house and allow their ambulance service to function smoothly.

The project needed the steel structure to be as open and free of potential driver hazards as possible. To ensure ambulance drivers had clear paths for quick access in and out, we used the unique Bracketless Portal System. The structural system allows steel columns and rafters to be clustered together and bolted directly rather than using a potentially obtrusive joining bracket. The bracketless system meant St John had fewer obstacles to ensure they could get to their community as quickly as possible.

Spinning steel for the Royal New Zealand Ballet

There are few things in life that can leave you in awe like the artful grace of a ballet dancer. The RNZB needed a structural system that could be constructed and deconstructed to suit their transient team as they traverse Aotearoa with their amazing shows. Because Coresteel’s structural systems are built to fulfill bespoke requests without compromising structural integrity, we found a solution to keep the show on the road.

The special requests didn’t stop there. RNZB needed special sprung floors for optimal training spaces, full costume-making, and fitting rooms, as well as huge windows from the mezzanine to the training studio to observe dancers’ pirouettes and plies as an audience would. It’s all in a day’s work for our designers, engineers, and builders, who worked to construct a steel structure fit for our dancing queens and kings.

Building futures with Te Ora Hou Northland

Te Ora Hou’s mahi makes sure Northland’s kids have support through anything life throws at them. Their strong kaupapa needed a building to match, and that’s where Coresteel’s custom steel buildings came in.

Our Coresteel team contributed the full turn-key solution; designing, manufacturing, building, and working with suppliers such as NZ Steel. The Te Ora Hou Community Centre saw us working with the Northland community to put together a steel structure to stand the test of time, making sure Te Ora Hou’s good work had a great home.

Coresteel Buildings hit new heights with a special steel structure to help future pilots get off the ground – literally!

The project included building a hangar 576sqm to safely store planes, as well as a functional training room so the students could learn all they needed to before soaring the skies. Using a Kingspan Insulated Panel, the steel cladding is set to protect the goods from the elements, rain, or shine, as well as keep the students snug in those winter months.
