In October 2016, Coresteel Buildings NZ awarded a $5000 Coresteel Buildings Innovation Award to University of Waikato engineering student Thye Way Phua.
Using software engineering, Thye Way has devised a way to make online survey results more secure.
He is on track to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree with first class honours, and in 2017 will begin a PhD with the university’s Cyber Security Research Unit.
The Coresteel brand was front and centre when seven young farmers went head-to-head to build a shed, at the 2016 NZ Young Farmer of the Year competition.
The event was held at Caroline Bay, Timaru on 8 July. Coresteel South Canterbury (operated by Harding Construction) coordinated and provided the carpentry activity for the Head to Head challenge.
