Coresteel South Canterbury’s Commitment to Community Sports

At Coresteel South Canterbury, we believe that building strong communities goes far beyond constructing sheds, warehouses, commercial and industrial facilities. It’s about supporting the spaces where memories are made, champions are forged, and communities come together to celebrate sport and achievement.
That’s why we are excited to be proudly getting behind these awesome facilities in our community:

The Heart of South Canterbury Sport: Southern Trust Events Centre – Aorangi Stadium

Aorangi Stadium has been South Canterbury’s major sporting hub since 1974, hosting everything from school athletics carnivals to regional championships. It’s venues like this that create pathways for our young athletes, provide recreation opportunities for families, and give our sporting clubs a place to call home.

The Coresteel South Canterbury Team is proud to support local sports and events for all ages and stages at Aorangi Stadium, Southern Trust Events Centre.

Fraser Park: A Legacy Renewed

Just down the road, Fraser Park tells another remarkable story of community dedication to sport. Fraser Park’s grounds have been the sporting heart of Timaru and South Canterbury since boots first hit the turf in 1876.

This transformation represents exactly the kind of community investment that makes South Canterbury special.

The upgraded Fraser Park will become a venue for a range of sports and events, accommodating not just rugby, but cricket, softball, and many other sports.

Levels Raceway: Speed and Precision

Levels Raceway (now known as Timaru International Motor Raceway) has been thrilling motorsport fans since 1967, when the South Canterbury Car Club built the original 1.6km circuit. This premier motorsport facility continues to host major events on New Zealand’s motorsport calendar.

The raceway demonstrates the same community spirit that drives all of South Canterbury’s sporting venues – bringing people together through their shared passion for motorsport excellence.

Coresteel’s Community Partnership

The Coresteel South Canterbury team is owned and operated by Simon and Heather Harding, who became Coresteel distributors in 2014 and brought a wealth of construction expertise with them.

Since joining the Coresteel network, the Hardings have worked hard to build not just quality buildings, but lasting relationships within the community.

Support for local sports venues like Aorangi Park, Fraser Park, and Levels Raceway reflects Coresteel’s core belief that thriving communities need strong sporting infrastructure.

These facilities provide:

  • Youth Development Opportunities
  • Community Connection
  • Economic Benefits

Building Community, One Project at a Time

At Coresteel South Canterbury, we understand that our role extends far beyond designing and constructing buildings. We specialise in commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects and have undertaken projects of all sizes across a diverse range of sectors.

But perhaps our most important projects are the ones that give back to our community. Whether it’s supporting local sports facilities or simply being active members of the South Canterbury business community, we believe in investing in the people and places that make our region special.

The Bigger Picture

“Community sports facilities like Aorangi Park and Fraser Park are investments in our future. They’re where children discover their love of sport, where families create lasting memories, and where communities come together to celebrate shared achievements.

Investment in these parks is an investment in future generations to make sure all children and young adults continue to have the opportunity to participate in sport now and into the future.

When local businesses like Coresteel support these facilities, we’re not just getting behind a venue – we’re investing in the health, wellbeing, and community spirit that makes South Canterbury such a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.”

– Heather Harding, Coresteel South Canterbury
