In 2020, Prebble Seeds' commercial lease was about to expire. The seeds-processing company needed to transition its Christchurch operations to a new, custom-built premise, pronto.
When Mackersy Property reached out on behalf of their tenant, Stephen Fitzgerald, the owner of Coresteel Christchurch, knew this project was not a walk in the park. The client urgently needed a tailor-made warehouse, office, and showroom solution, but the severe time constraints posed a challenge.
Stephen quickly determined the client’s specific design requirements and translated those into a feasible action plan. Due to the scant leeway in the schedule, the design had to be 100% precise from the get-go!
Despite the shortened timetable, Coresteel’s designers swiftly and expertly engineered the steel structure in DonoBeam, Coresteel’s exclusive tapered box beam system.
The subsequent construction phase commenced on time and proceeded without delays. Conscious of the overall project timeframe, Stephen remained directly connected with decision-makers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
The result? Prebble Seeds was able to occupy its brand-new, purpose-built processing plant, office, and showroom before the deadline.
How was this accomplishment possible? Stephen explained, “From the start, there was a strong engagement to understand what the client needed and put that in place with no changes going through the design or build process. In other words, a project manager needs to completely comprehend the design brief and put it into action as quickly as possible.”
Best of all, the collaboration kickstarted a long-term, trust-filled relationship between Coresteel Christchurch and another 100% New Zealand owned and operated brand.
