Engineering the Food Industry

When the food industry called for bigger, better buildings, Coresteel answered, with the innovative, nested, DonoBeam structural system.

In recent years we’ve proved the capabilities of the DonoBeam when building facilities for our customers in the dairy, packaged food, wine, honey, kumara, potato, and onion industries and there are many more projects in the pipeline.

So what’s different about the DonoBeam that makes it ideal for the food industry?

It’s a heavy-weight masquerading as a light-weight

The TBB is manufactured by folding two halves of flat steel plate and welding them together to form a box. The box is tapered through its length, utilising only the amount of steel required for any given design, without affecting structural integrity.

This design feature also reduces the weight and square face meterage for paint area. Paint coverage is typically 28% less than I-beams, which creates cost-savings, especially where high-level paint systems are specified.

Bye-bye birdies… and vermin

As the DonoBeam is a sealed hollow section, it is bird and vermin-resistant, meaning it provides no surfaces for birds to roost or vermin to run along, when purlins are embedded. This feature is always a winner with our customers in the food industry and was a major selling point when we built a processing facility for food giant Griffins, and an additional 6500sqm storage facility that is currently underway.

Heaps of space

The DonoBeam allows you to make the most of each and every square meter of your building, boasting simply supported spans larger than previously thought possible. To date, Coresteel’s largest span is 51m simply supported, while with props, span sizes are unlimited.

Save time and money

Coresteel can take care of as much or as little of your project as needed. Full turn-key projects guarantee significant cost savings in engineering due to our custom-built software. Yet Coresteel can also provide any one part of the project, including simply supplying the engineering and portal frame members erected.

The DonoBeam system again saves time and money during construction. The steel frame is delivered to site as a complete structural kitset and is prefabricated, meaning no onsite welding and a speedy lift, creating significant labour savings.
