Reflecting on the last 12 years of racing in the NZ V8 Ute Racing Series, with some awesome people and a great category. I have decided to hang up my helmet from racing full time in this series.
A tribute to Ash Cairns for believing in the Ute Racing Series and bringing it to New Zealand. As one of the first shareholders, I am proud to have been part of a competitive and professionally run series.
I have some fond memories of the early days with Jamie Kett, there was never a dull moment, especially when having to sing a song to win 2 new tyres, but to this day have never seen them!
Another special mention to Paul and Lynda Isaacs, for all of their hard work behind the scenes. We are so fortunate to have Paul’s passion and technical expertise keeping a bunch of ute racers in check at every round without fail.
One memory to forget is leading an entire race with one lap to go, only to bin it on the last corner which would have been my maiden win. But we made up for this the following weekend at Timaru, taking out our first win with some pretty handy company behind us.
It has been a great privilege to travel the entire country and race at so many different tracks and events.
Without doubt, my favourite track would be the ITM 400 Hamilton Street Race. Not only was it my favourite, it was also the venue for one of my biggest crashes.
Over the years we have had some great partnerships.
With sponsors; Jackson Enterprises, TWL, SAF, Waggs, Coresteel Buildings, Roofing Industries, Konnect, Glenn Carroll Transport Ltd and SOS Rehydrate.
Crew over the years; Trevor Jackson, Craig Humphries, Emma and Daniel Macarthur, Bruce Hewitt, Craig Paterson, Keegan Downey, Markku Braid, Jarred Bird, Warren Clare, and Rob Potts.
A special shoutout to my dad, number one supporter, mechanic, mentor, and pit bitch Bruce.
Most importantly I would not have been able to do this without the undivided support from my family.
My wife, Kelsey, for being my rock, always having my back through it all and allowing me to live my dream.
Next my two daughters, Britt and Tilly, they have developed great friendships and learned life lessons through being brought up in a positive racing environment.
Thank you to everyone else who has supported us and the category throughout the years.
To top it all off, so proud to have received the Peter Robb Memorial Trophy.
